Histology Technologist
Job Summary
The Histology Technologist provides limited supervision of histology lab assistants and histotechnicians; and processes tissue specimens for microscopic examination using appropriate methods for sectioning, fixing, embedding, staining, and mounting; reviewing methods and implementing changes if required. The histotechnologist also prepares reagents and stains and performs immunohistochemical testing. Performs and documents instrument preventive maintenance, troubleshooting instrument problems and monitoring quality control. The histotechnologist also participates in test proficiency and consults with Pathologist regarding difficult or abnormal findings.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor or Associate Degree from an accredited college or university.
- Current certification or registration by ASCP or equivalent agency as a Histo Technologist.
- Current and valid State of Hawaii license.
- Previous experience in a pathology laboratory, hospital lab preferred, of at least one or more years.
- Medical terminology and computer data entry experience of at least one or more years.
- Excellent interpersonal, organizational, and customer service skills required.
- Excellent English communication (verbal and written) skills, including by telephone.
